Teenage belly dancer embroiled in Silvio Berlusconi sex scandal cashes in on new fame by appearing semi-clothed in advert - The teenage belly dancer who Silvio Berlusconi is accused of sleeping with while she was under-age has cashed in on the scandal by appearing in an Italian TV advert.

Karima El Mahroug, 18, strips to her underwear in a commercial for The Female Labyrith, a book by a former MEP.

In the advertisement, the dancer, whose stage name is Ruby the Heart Stealer, attacks the 'regime' and claims Italian society has been 'stripped bare' by the government.

She initially appears in a red dress but a man dressed as the Phantom of the Opera emerges and rips it off, leaving her in nothing but her black underwear, to emphasise the message of the ad.

It is alleged that Mr Berlusconi paid Miss El Mahroug for sex when she was 17 and used his influence to secure her release when she was arrested, charges that the Italian Prime Minister is to stand trial for, it was announced yesterday.

If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison. Mr Berlusconi, 74, denies the charges and claims he is the victim of a political witch hunt.

Miss El Mahroug admits she attended Mr Berlusconi’s infamous ‘bunga bunga’ parties, the name referring to a crude after-dinner sex game.

She says she was given £7,000 on the evening she first met the Italian PM, as a gift, but denies that she ever had sexual intercourse with him.

Prosecutors have stressed that ‘fondling her and not having intercourse’ would still be a crime as she was under 18, the age of consent to act as a prostitute in Italy.

Last May Mr Berlusconi called a Milan police station where Miss Mahroug was being held after being accused of theft.

He is said to have told officers she was the granddaughter of Hosni Mubarak, then Egyptian president, and should be ‘freed immediately to avoid an embarrassing diplomatic incident’.

Prosecutors say Berlusconi called police because he feared his relationship with the teen would be revealed.

Lawyers have already relayed more than 700 pages of wiretap conversations describing raucous behaviour, including sex-fuelled parties attended by scantily clad women, sometimes dressed as nurses or police officers.

The trial is set to begin April 6 before a panel of three female judges.

Berlusconi has called the allegations 'groundless' and dismissed the case as a 'farce', accusing prosecutors of seeking to oust him from power.

His lawyers are expected to appeal against the decision to send him for trial.

They have filed dozens of statements from female guests who insisted the parties were not of a sexual nature but pleasant evenings of dinner and talking.

Showbusiness agent Lele Mora, TV newscaster Emilio Fede and former showgirl Nicole Minetti are also under investigation.

They are said to have procured girls for Mr Berlusconi and taken them to his house.

Prosecutors said ‘numerous women were involved’ but Miss El Mahroug was the only one who was under-age. She is expected to testify at the trial.

The child prostitution charge carries a possible prison term of six months to three years. However, the abuse of influence charge is even more dangerous: it carries a sentence of four to 12 years, and if Berlusconi is sentenced to more than five, he would be barred from ever again holding public office.
